Apple restricts dating apps and AI companions to users 18 and up
Summary
- Apple is updating its App Store policies to restrict online dating apps and AI companions featuring sexual or romantic content to users aged 18 and older.
- Starting November 16, developers must use new content descriptors to ensure their apps accurately reflect these age ratings.
- The updated policy also requires apps that share real-world user locations with others to indicate this functionality due to privacy concerns.
Why it matters
App Store policy updates regarding age ratings directly impact developers and companies building AI companion apps, necessitating changes to compliance, distribution, and target user demographics.
